Warning: Both in-class activities and homeworks are group assignments. It means less work per individual each week, but more responsibility for self-study. These activities and homeworks are asked to improve your skills on probability to the highest reasonable extend possible within course objectives. Estimated weight of group work is 30-35% on your overall grade. Each member of each group is expected to participate in the in-class activity and homework efforts.
In-Class Activities
- Each in-class activity should be finished within class hours (until 12:50 PM). There will be no extensions.
- In-Class activities are group assignments. You can solve them individually but you should submit as a group.
- Submissions should be hand-written.
- Before you submit, you may have your work peer reviewed. Peer reviewers will grade the in-class activity as well. Peer reviewers will be announced during the class hours. Peer review process is 10% bonus. (5% if you do peer review + 5% if you have your activity peer reviewed)
- You should submit your work to the instructor.
- It is recommended to take a snapshot of your in-class activity submission and send it to the instructor by email .
Homeworks
- Homeworks are group works.
- For each homework, each group should write 3 questions and fill a peer review evaluation.
- First question should be easy, second medium and third hard.
- The topics should cover from last homework to the current topics. First homework should cover all until the Lecture Notes 2.
- You are expected to write your homework in RMarkdown. Examples are on both course page and Bilgi Learn. Consult to your instructor for questions and help. You should submit Rmd files and pdf files together.
- Due date is until Friday each week. There will be no extensions.
- Each group should peer review another group’s work. Evaluation should be based on originality (Is it very similar to lecture notes or book questions?), rigor (Are the questions of good quality and solutions through?) and code (Is the R code representative of the question and the solution?).
- Peer reviews should be done after initial submissions.
- Homework submission / peer review weights are 75% / 25% respectively. If your assigned homework is not submitted then your grade will be rescaled (e.g. if you get 60/75 and there is no homework for you to peer review, your grade will be 60*100/75 = 80).
- Peer review performances will be evaluated based on agreement with the instructor.
